News reporters and journalists are the news business’ most valuable tools. Their work varies from fun to dangerous and used to be dominated by men. With times changing so are the views of women reporting the news, with Gabby Logan being one of the most popular sports presenters on the BBC.
Journalism often requires travelling and a reporter will be sent around the world to report on the news. Many of the larger news stations have free lance reporters based around the world to report on stories as they happen and send their better known faces out as soon as possible to take over the story.
Most reporters are qualified or have knowledge in a particular area. A football reporter will not double up as the royal correspondent.
Some news reporters in newspapers and on the television are not qualified journalists but well known personalities giving their personal views on the news. Sports sections use sporting legends such as Terry Venables and Kris Kamara to report on small sections of the football news.
Local news stations and papers use the same journalists for many different stories on different topics as they do not have the sources or the funding available to them to use many reporters.
The weather news is an important part of the news for people travelling. If there is a severe storm warning then it will appear in the main news rather than at the end with the other weather.
Whether the news is being watched on the television, read in paper or listened to on the radio, it normally follows the same format of; headlines, main story, other news, sports, weather. Without the news we would be ignorant to many of the problems around the world.
