tabloid newspaperThere are two types of newspaper known as broadsheets and tabloids. Dependant ion the content and type of news you are looking for will depend on which paper you are more likely to buy.

The two styles are different in many ways, from the writing style to the actual content. Although the headlines and first few pages are often the same story, the headline and content will be done in conflicting styles.

A broadsheet paper will use less colour and pictures and write with a more educated vocabulary. The reporting will be done in a serious style and aimed at well educated people, with the crossword being far more taxing in The Guardian compared to the a tabloid like The Mirror.

A tabloid newspaper will have large headline print, use lots of pictures and colour and focus on many celebrity based gossip as well as the other news. Football will dominate the sports pages and undercover shocking stories on the NHS or airline security will milked for every penny.

The tabloids can be guilty of sensationalising and glamourising bad behaviour from celebrities as well as creating a big story from an innocent photograph. In comparison the broadsheet papers can be guilty of the opposite and can be boring and dull to read.
Finding a balance is tricky with some opting to buy both in order to get all the news they are after.
